Revolutionize is a strong word, but that’s the exact description used by Tony Kornheisher on PTI during a highlight video of high school junior and women’s basketball standout Brittney Griner.
Grinner was not only on Pardon The Interruption, but she also made in appearance during SportsCenter’s top 10 after being an assists shy of a quadruple-double.
What had everyone in a whirlwind, however, were a couple of easy drop-step dunks by the 6’8″ Griner. We’re not talking about your typical Candice-Parker-run-the-entire-length-of-the-court-and-lay-the-ball-up-then-grab-the-rim-dunk. No, these were legitimate drop-step dunks . . . by a girl.
Whether this will revolutionize women’s basketball, I doubt it. One girl dunking off two feet won’t transcend women’s basketball into the realm of the NBA. It probably won’t even make the WNBA popular (or watchable). The major impact, however, will be on college basketball.
Let’s be honest, people are more invested in women’s college basketball then they are the WNBA. Miss Griner recently made a verbal commitment to Baylor University and she’s only a junior. Grinder’s early commitment can be used as recruiting tool for next year, making Baylor a perennial power in the near future. Perhaps, for the first time in 137 years, we may actually witness a women’s final four field not made up by Connecticut, Tennessee, Rutgers, and Louisiana Tech.
While we’re on the subject, I’m going to put some money down on this year’s women’s NCAA bracket. All you have to do is pick the high seed in every round: easy money.
Seriously, I’m looking forward to Grinder putting on a Baylor uniform.
Take a look for yourself.

is that juwanna mann?
ha. Classic cinema
I could beat her. one on one. and fight.
I’ll give you better odds in the basketball game over the fight.
Are we sure that is not a dude pretending to be a girl-she can ball!
Would love to have an androgenous test done on her, like what was done on the track star from (Zimbabwe).
